David A. Myers1

M, #9757, b. between 1818 and 1819, d. between 1880 and 1881
FatherDaniel Myers2,3 b. bt 1793 - 1797, d. b 5 Jul 1870
MotherMary Wilson2
Last Edited27 Apr 2024
Birth*David, son of Daniel Myers and Mary Wilson, was born between 1818 and 1819 in Kentucky. FSTrees (Daniel Myers, ID no. LZVS-SC2) claims 1815 w/o citation. The census record suggests 1818-1819.4
Census1820David is probably the male under age 10 listed in the household of his father, Daniel Myers, in the 1820 Federal Census of Cumberland Co., Kentucky.5
Census1830David is probably one of the two males age 10 to 14 listed in the household of his father, Daniel Myers, in the 1830 Federal Census of Allen Co., Kentucky.6
Marriage*His first marriage was to Nancy Potts on 25 September 1838 at Sumner Co., Tennessee. Another possible child shown only by FSTrees (David A Myers (1815-1881), ID no. KJ4W-BXC), without citation, was Nina Myers (1855-1860).7
Census1840*David A. appeared on the 1840 Federal Census of Allen Co., Kentucky, with a household listed as 10101-00001 as 20-29 yo David Myers. His wife Nancy Potts is likely the 20-29 yo female, son (name currently unknown) the male <5 yo. The male 10-14 is currently unidentified.3
Marriage*His second marriage was to Nancy White on 19 February 1850 at Effingham Co., Illinois. FSTrees adds one other daughter, Sarah F Myers (1851-dec'd) but I've found no real evidence for her. However Nancy's obit does say she and Daniel had seven children and I've only got six so it's certainly plausible.8,9,10,11
Census1850*David and Nancy appeared on the 1850 Federal Census Effingham Co., Illinois, enumerated 26 August 1850, as 32 yo farmer David & 21 yo Nancy Myers. Their son James was listed as living with them, as well as 60 yo Francis White, possibly Nancy's mother. Their firstborn 'son' is missing as is 2nd-born Rebecca. Other researchers have concluded from this that both 'son' and Rebecca died before the 1850 census, yet I find Rebecca is an heir in her father's will of 1877. That fact begs the question is 'son' the Daniel Myers, otherwise unidentified, who is listed first in his father's will. If so, where were 'son' and Rebecca in this census?12
Census1860David and Nancy appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of T6 R6E, Effingham Co., Illinois, enumerated 13 July 1860, as 41 yo David & 30 yo Nancy Myers. Their children Rebecca Ann, James, Elizabeth Frances, Thomas White and Sarah Jane were listed as living with them.4
Census1870David and Nancy appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of East Nelson, Moultrie Co., Illinois, enumerated 18 July 1870, as 54 yo farmer David & 35 yo Nancy Myers. Their children Elizabeth Frances, Thomas White, Sarah Jane, David A. and George White were listed as living with them.13
Estate-Will*David A. Myers left a will dated 28 July 1877 at Moultrie Co., Illinois, naming no executor. Named heirs included his children by his first wife Rebecca Ann and James, his wife Nancy and his children by Nancy, namely David A., George White, Elizabeth Frances, Thomas White and Sarah Jane
The will is a bit disappointing in that David didn't use the words 'son' or 'daughter' in his will, only 'wife'. He did tie five of his children to m2 Nancy White as 'her five heirs'. It took some reading between the lines to decide if the first three mentioned were his siblings or his children but children seems much more likely. Only one person remains unidentified, the first one listed, Daniel Miers. David had no known sons named Daniel.14
Census1880David and Nancy appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of East Nelson Twp., Moultrie Co., Illinois, enumerated 9 June 1880, as 65 yo farmer David & 63 yo wife Nancy Myers. Their children David A. and George White were listed as living with them.15
Death*David died between 1880 and 1881. Find A Grave memorial no. 99182167 is gibberish. It shows a headstone for David's m2 wife Nancy White but somehow infers her lifespan as his. His probate records of 1881 pretty well crush the idea he died in 1913. The census record makes a 1828 birth out of the question. FSTrees (Daniel Myers, ID no. LZVS-SC2) has his lifespan approximately right as 1815-1881. His m2 Nancy White's obit says he died in 1880.16,17
Estate-Probate*David's will was probated at Moultrie Co., Illinois, in August 1881.18

FatherDaniel Myers2 b. bt 1793 - 1797, d. b 5 Jul 1870
MotherMary Wilson2
Last Edited10 Apr 2023
Birth*James, son of Daniel Myers and Mary Wilson, was born in July 1826 in Kentucky.3,1,4
Census1830James is probably one of the two males under age 5 listed in the household of his father, Daniel Myers, in the 1830 Federal Census of Allen Co., Kentucky.5
Census1840James is probably the male age 10 to 14 listed in the household of his father, Daniel Myers, in the 1840 Federal Census of Allen Co., Kentucky.6
Marriage*His first marriage was to Minerva Ann "Mary" Britton on 1 July 1847 at Clinton Co., Illinois. I have included eight children for whom I've found good evidence.7
Census1850James and Minerva appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Dist. 11, Marion Co., Illinois, enumerated 14 September 1850, as 24 yo farmer James & 20 yo Mumrva Myres. Their son Thomas Louis was listed as living with them.8
Census1870*James appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Centralia 1st Ward, Marion Co., Illinois, enumerated 5 July 1870, as 44 yo farmer James H & 38 yo Mary A Myres. Their children Thomas Louis, Florence Virinda, Mary Ellen "Ella", Daniel Newton, Sarah Catherine and Cora A. were listed as living with them. James' step-mother Cordelia and four of his half-siblings live next door above.4
Census1880*James and Minerva appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Olive Twp., Madison Co., Illinois, enumerated 12 June 1880, as 54 yo James H & 48 yo Mary Myers. Their children Sarah Catherine, Cora A., Ida May, George Wilson and Mary Ellen "Ella" were listed as living with them.9
Marriage*His second marriage was to Adelaide A. "Addie" Lnu between 1886 and 1900. Date range bracketed by James's m1 Minerva's death in 1886 and the 1900 census. The 1900 census shows them married 35 years with 4 born & 2 living. That makes no sense. FSTrees (James H Myers (1826–1905), ID no. LHTD-4SQ) claims they were married in 1886 but provides no source.10
Census1900James appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Osage Twp., Allen Co., Kansas, enumerated 9 June 1900, as 73 yo farmer James H & 52 yo wife Addie A Myers. Their son George Wilson was listed as living with them, as well as 23 yo daughter-in-law Ada A Myers (George's wife), 81 yo widowed step-father David A Daniel, and 10 yo grandson Ollie Moore.10
Death*James died on 6 November 1905 in Moran, Allen Co., Kansas, at age 79.1
Burial*He was buried at Fairview Cemetery in Mildred, Allen Co., Kansas. Joint headstone photo w/ wife Minerva is available at Find A Grave.1

Birth*Ellen, daughter of Daniel Myers and Cordelia Bennett, was born on 14 October 1854 in Kentucky. Her Find A Grave memorial says, Death Certificate & obituary indicate she was born in Centralia, Illinois, however 70 years of census records indicate she was born in Kentucky.1,2
Census1860Ellen appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of T9N R5E, Saline Co., Illinois in the household of her parents, Daniel Myers and Cordelia Bennett, as 6 yo Ellen C Myers.2
Census1870Ellen appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Centralia 1st Ward, Marion Co., Illinois in the household of her mother, Cordelia Bennett, as 16 yo Ellen Mires.4
Marriage*She married Edward Smith Sr. in 1874 in Illinois. Married 25 years with 2 born and 2 living in the 1900 census! It should be 3 and 3. The 1910 census shows Edward with two marriages, Ellen with one, and 4 born with 2 living. Eddie had died by 1910 so the 2 living makes sense.1,5,6
Census1880*Ellen and Edward appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Sedalia, Pettis Co., Missouri, enumerated 1 June 1880, as 30 yo railroad engineer Edward & 26 yo wife Ellie Smith. Their children Edward "Eddie", Ella Bell and George W. were listed as living with them. There is also an 11 yo son, Chas, born Illinois, enumerated with the family. His age suggests he is from a prior marriage.7
Census1900Ellen and Edward appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Denison, Grayson Co., Texas, enumerated 8 June 1900, as 52 yo locomotive engineeer Ed & 46 yo wife Ellen Smith. Their children Ella Bell and George W. were listed as living with them. Daughter Ella is enumerated twice - here and with her husband Elijah and two children. George should be 21, not 29. This enumeration is all messed up.5
Census1910Ellen and Edward appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Denison, Grayson Co., Texas, enumerated 16 April 1910, as 62 yo railroad conductor Edward & 54 yo wife Ellen Smith. Their son George W. was listed as living with them.6
Census1920*Ellen appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Denison, Grayson Co., Texas, enumerated 7 January 1920, as 66 yo widow Ellen Smith. Her son George W. was listed as living with her.8
Census1930Ellen appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Denison, Grayson Co., Texas, enumerated 8 April 1930, as 70 yo widow Ellen Smith. Her son George W. was listed as living with her.9
Death*Ellen died on 17 April 1939 at her home 214 E. Munson in Denison, Grayson Co., Texas, at age 84.10
Burial*She was buried at Oakwood Cemetery in Denison, Grayson Co., Texas. Portrait, obit and death certificate available at Find A Grave, but no headstone photo.1

Marriage*Their first marriage was to Hannah May "Hattie" Smith from 6 July 1870 to 21 March 1873. Hannah's 1900 census enumeration shows 5 born with 4 living. Birth*Florence, daughter of James Hanna Myers and Minerva Ann "Mary" Britton, was born on 4 July 1852 in Centralia, Marion Co., Illinois. Her Cook Co Deaths record says 04 July 1852, headtone says 04 July 1851 as does the 1900 census.4,5,6
Census1870Florence appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Centralia 1st Ward, Marion Co., Illinois in the household of her parents, James Hanna Myers, as 19 yo Florence Myers.2

The 1900 census confirms married 27 years with 5 born & 5 living. This 5-5 value begs the question, are the possible twins Lottie and Kittie in fact the same person. By the 1910 census they show married 37 years with 8 born and 5 living.7,4,8,9,10
Census1900*Florence and Robert appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Staunton, Macoupin Co., Illinois, enumerated 22 June 1900, as 49 yo express agent Robert A & 48 yo wife Florence V Hoxsey. Last Edited27 Apr 2024
Birth*Mary, daughter of James Hanna Myers and Minerva Ann "Mary" Britton, was born in 1858 in Illinois.4,3
Census1870Mary appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Centralia 1st Ward, Marion Co., Illinois in the household of her parents, James Hanna Myers, as 12 yo Ellen Myers.3
Marriage*Her first marriage was to Archibald Foulk on 6 February 1876 at Madison Co., Illinois. License dated 04 Feb.5,2
Census1880Mary appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Olive Twp., Madison Co., Illinois in the household of her parents, James Hanna Myers and Minerva Ann "Mary" Britton, as 22 yo married daughter Mary E Fulk.2
Marriage*Her second marriage was to Thomas C. Russell on 27 January 1881 at Olive Twp., Madison Co., Illinois.6
Marriage*Her third marriage was to Medor Shappey on 4 July 1909 at Bourbon Co., Kansas. The 1910 census confirms married zero years. Both Medor and Ella say this is their m2, though in fact it's Ella's m3 and perhaps Medor's m3, too. Ella shows 3 born and 3 living which is odd. Perhaps Medor's children were listed as Ella's. Medor's m1 was probably Mary "Polly" Rushford, married 03 Dec 1865 in Fairfax, Vermont. Her Find A Grave memorial is no. 74985593. They are living together in several Fort Scott city directories 1900-1908. A death record likely to be hers is just below Medor's (as Mador) in Knights and Ladies of Security/Security Benefit Association--Index to Death Claims. She died 26 Feb 1909.7,8,9,1
Census1910*Mary and Medor appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Fort Scott, Bourbon Co., Kansas, enumerated 23 April 1910, as 63 yo railroad shop foreman painter Meador & 50 yo wife Ella Sheppy. Medor's 17 yo son Bert Sheppy was listed as living with them.1
Death*Mary died on 4 July 1916.4
Burial*She was buried at Fairview Cemetery in Mildred, Allen Co., Kansas, row 11, blk 6.4
ResearchNote*Research Note of 16 June 2020 re Myers-Foulk & related marriages. Ella's m1 to Archibald Foulk is confirmed by the 1880 census in which Mary is living with her parents & younger siblings, has the surname Fulk and a 2 yo son James L Fulk. Mary is listed as married. The IL County Marriages record gives Archibald's and Mary's names in full but unfortunately does not mention their parents' names.
Ella's m2 to Thomas Russell is confirmed by IL County Marriages in which Mary's father is shown as James H Meyer.
Ella's m3 to Medor Shappey is confirmed by KS County Marriages which lists her as Ellen Russell. Less than a year after the marriage the 1910 census confirms married less than a year and the birthstates of Ella and both her parents.
Find A Grave also supports both the Russell and Shappey marriages.2,5,6,7

ResearchNoteResearch Note of 16 June 2020 re Myers-Foulk censuses. Arch & Ella were married in 1876. Here's what I've found,
1870: Ella is 12 yo and living with her parents. Arch is 19 yo and living with his parents.
1880: Ella is 22 yo, married, living with her parents and her 2 yo son James L Fulk. I've not found Arch yet.
1900: Ella is missing. Arch is 49 yo, widower(!) living with his parents and sister Evaline.
1910: Ella is 50 yo and living with Medor in Bourbon, KS. Arch is 59 yo, single(!) living with his younger brother Crawford and sister Evaline.
1920: Ella died in 1916. Arch is a widower living with his sister Evaline.
Except for playing fast and loose with marital status the ages and residences all make sense.

MotherMinerva Ann "Mary" Britton3,2 b. 1831, d. Mar 1886
Last Edited21 Sep 2022
Birth*Cora, daughter of James Hanna Myers and Minerva Ann "Mary" Britton, was born circa 6 March 1866 in Marion Co., Illinois. The 1870 and 1880 censuses suggest 1865-1866 because she's 4 and 14 yo respectively. Her Find A Grave memorial says 1868 but there's no headstone photo so no clue where that number came from. Her Cook Co Deaths record says 1869 but that's clearly out of agreement with the censuses. I'm sticking with the 06 March value because it's not contradicted, but going with 1866 as a much more likely year.2,1,4
Census1870Cora appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Centralia 1st Ward, Marion Co., Illinois in the household of her parents, James Hanna Myers, as 4 yo Cora Myers.2
Census1880Cora appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Olive Twp., Madison Co., Illinois in the household of her parents, James Hanna Myers and Minerva Ann "Mary" Britton, as 14 yo daughter Cora Myers.5
Marriage*She married Fnu Wilson before 25 July 1917, date based on Cora being listed as Cora A Wilson, defendant, in the lawsuit of this date.1
LawsuitThomas Louis Myers, George Wilson Myers, Florence Virinda Myers, Cora A. Myers and Ida May Myers were named defendants in a lawsuit 25 July 1917 in District Court of Allen County, Kansas, brought by Jas. L Foulk et al re partition of some property in Moran, Kansas. Others named defendants were Lewis, Lawrence and Howard Myers, Pearl Walsh, Edw A Russell, Lulu Cameron, Alva, Nellie, Harlan, Ollie and Ira Moore.6
Death*Cora died on 24 July 1920 in Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois.1
Burial*She was buried at Fairview Cemetery in Mildred, Allen Co., Kansas. On first glance Fairview makes no sense since she was born, raised and lived in Illinois. But both her parents are buried at Fairview and she was a widow at her death, so bringing the body back to Kansas for burial works.1

But the three birth states are correct. Her husband John's whereabouts are currently unknown.9
Marriage*Her third marriage was to George Garrett LePage on 2 June 1915 at Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois. George's m1 was Lenora Brendel, married in 1906.10,11,3,12
LawsuitThomas Louis Myers, George Wilson Myers, Florence Virinda Myers, Cora A. Myers and Ida May Myers were named defendants in a lawsuit 25 July 1917 in District Court of Allen County, Kansas, brought by Jas. L Foulk et al re partition of some property in Moran, Kansas. Others named defendants were Lewis, Lawrence and Howard Myers, Pearl Walsh, Edw A Russell, Lulu Cameron, Alva, Nellie, Harlan, Ollie and Ira Moore.13
Residence*Ida and George resided at 753 Bowen Ave. in Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois, on 12 September 1918. Unfortunately Ida is listed only as Mrs. Geo. G. LePage.14
Census1920Ida and George appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois, enumerated 5 January 1920, as 43 yo furniture store manager George & 41 yo furniture store sales lady Ida LePage. George's 65 yo widowed mother Julia LePage was listed as living with them.
Ida's birthstates are all out of whack. They should read IL, KY, and IN, but instead say KS all the way across. George was born in Kansas for what it's worth.15
Census1930*Ida and George appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois, enumerated 4 April 1930, as 52 yo paint store decorator George G & 65 yo wife Ida M LePage. Two boarders were listed as living with them.16

Death*Ida died on 5 May 1963 in Missouri at age 92.3
Burial*She was buried at Riverview Cemetery in Jefferson City, Cole Co., Missouri.3

Birth*George, son of James Hanna Myers and Minerva Ann "Mary" Britton, was born in 1873 in Illinois.3
Census1880George appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Olive Twp., Madison Co., Illinois in the household of his parents, James Hanna Myers and Minerva Ann "Mary" Britton, as 7 yo son George Myers.3
Marriage*His first marriage was to Ada Adelia Weaver on 20 June 1899 at Kansas City, Jackson Co., Missouri.2,1
Census1900George appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Osage Twp., Allen Co., Kansas in the household of his parents, James Hanna Myers, as 26 yo son George W Myers.4
Census1910*George and Ada appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Portland, Multnomah Co., Oregon, enumerated circa 16 April 1910, as 36 yo electric railroad brakeman George W & 33 yo wife Ada A Myers. Their children Mildred Violet and Dorothy E. were listed as living with them.5
LawsuitThomas Louis Myers, George Wilson Myers, Florence Virinda Myers, Cora A.
Census1920George and Ada appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Portland, Multnomah Co., Oregon, enumerated 8 January 1920, as 45 yo railroad brakeman George W & 43 yo wife Ada A Meyers. Their children Mildred Violet and Dorothy E. were listed as living with them. There are two others in the household, one roomer and one puzzle. The puzzle is listed as 58 yo widowed 'mother' Nora J Morgan, born Ohio. Yet George's mother is listed as born Indiana, and Nora's as Pennsylvania. So whose mother is it? Definitely not George's.7
Census1930George and Ada appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Portland, Multnomah Co., Oregon, enumerated 4 April 1930, as 56 yo electric railroad brakeman George W & 53 yo wife Ada A Myers. Their children Mildred Violet and Dorothy E. were listed as living with them. Dorothy enumerated twice - here and with her husband in Kansas.8
DeathGeorge was mentioned in the obituary of Ada Adelia Weaver, dated circa 22 September 1932, as her husband.9
Marriage*His second marriage was to Laura Lnu before 1 April 1935, date based on George & Laura showing identical residences on this date in the 1940 census. George's m1 Ada had died in 1932. The fact that George's occupation is railroad brakeman for four censuses in a row sealed the deal on this census enumeration.10
Census1940*George appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Jennings Lodge, Clackamas Co., Oregon, enumerated 3 April 1940, as 66 yo railroad brakeman George & 48 yo wife Laura Myers.10
Death*George died in 1952 in Portland, Multnomah Co., Oregon.11
